Director of MITI's Electronics Policy Division Visits TRC

On the afternoon of September 19 (Fri.), 1997, the Tsukuba Research Center (TRC) had a special guest from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. For the visitor, Mr. Hideichi Okada, director of the Electronics Policy Division of MITI, TRC staff members organized a presentation session to describe the primary research subjects of the RWC Project and a technical trip of the TRC.

Mr. Keiichi Aoyagi, executive director of RWCP, delivered a welcome speech and Dr. Junichi Shimada, director of the RWC Research Institute, outlined the project and, in particular, the status of parallel and distributed computing systems research and development. Also, three laboratory chiefs presented briefings on their respective activities in the parallel and distributed computing field. They were Dr. Yutaka Ishikawa, chief of the Parallel and Distributed System Software Laboratory, Dr. Tomohiro Kudoh, chief of the Parallel and Distributed System Architecture Laboratory, and Dr. Mitsuhisa Sato, chief of the Parallel and Distributed System Performance Laboratory.

After the presentation, Mr. Okada enjoyed a trip of the TRC laboratories and demonstrations of PC cluster technology. Dr. Yutaka Akiyama, chief of the Parallel Applications Laboratory, explained several topics including the simulation analysis of protein molecular structure.

At the end of the visit, Mr. Okada had a Q&A session and discussion with the laboratory chiefs over research and development problems.
