The IPSJ SIG Research Award is given to remarkable research achievements presented at Spcial Interest Group (SIG) of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ) or symposiums hosted by the groups. Previously, this prize was simply called "Research Award." It was decided to present prize money from the fund contributed by the family of the late Hideo Yamashita, the first chairman of the IPSJ and the title of the prize was changed to the Yamashita Memorial Research Award in Japanese in 1994.
There are 24 SIGs in the IPSJ. The award is given to 24 outstanding papers submitted to the SIG meeting, including their symposiums, during the previous two years. 24 papers were selected, as recommended by the leaders of research groups.
As described above, two RWCP researchers won the award this year. The award ceremony will be held during the period of the 53rd IPSJ's national meeting held at the Osaka Institute of Technology from September 4 to 6. The profile of all winners will be carried in the November issue of the "Journal of Information Processing Society of Japan."
